Hey

I've got a problem with my PS3, I just upgraded from 60GB to 320GB (Woot!), which in itself was difficult because the screwheads got messed up. But anyway I managed to do it and I did a quick format, and put all the stuff on my backup (~34GB) onto my new HDD.

But when I go to system info it says I have 234GB/298GB free, where the hell has the extra 30GB of data come from?!?!?

Anyone else had this problem

PS. I'm thinking of doing a full format if I don't find an easy solution.

There is no problem. When you buy a 320gb hdd the actual formattede capacity is around 299gb so your ps3 is displaying exactly what it should. This happens because of the number of significant digits and the fact that 1 MB is not equal to 1000 KB but rather 1024 KB.

Here, I'll prove to you that 298gb equals 320gb in bytes (the second lowest possible measurement)

298 GB x 1024 = 305,152 MB
305,152 MB x 1024 = 312,475,648 KB
312,475,648 KB x 1024 = 319,975,063,552 Bytes = 320 GB.

That's why my 60 gig says it's only 55 gb. it's just the formula that makes it look strange, you're still getting the same amount ^^ No worries.

Woot! 1,000 post!!! ^^

yeah I know about the bytes -> megabyte conversion, so I'm not worried about that. My problem was that my backup was ~39GB, but when I restored it on to my new HDD it took up ~64GB. Which is weird, but I'm just going to live with it now, I can't be bothered formatting my HDD any more lol.
