So Lair is out recently, and it was a pretty hyped up game, everyone expected much from it.

Then the reviews started coming out, and they were pretty horrible. Some of the major guys like Gamespot and IGN are giving it scores like 4.5 / 10!! I haven't seen a game that poorly rated in a very long time.

So what do you think of the game, if you've had a chance to play it?

I rented it recently, and while I don't agree with the 4.5 score (I think its being pretty harsh), the game does have a lot of flaws. The control scheme of the game is really really annoying. It doesn't really get any easier, and its extremely frustrating to use. That, and the missions are often pretty tedious and sometimes annoying and boring.

The graphics are really beautiful, and the story is decent. The music is very good, and the imagery and art in the game is incredible.

Personally I think the game deserves a 6.0. It's a good game with some big flaws, 4.5 is a score reserved for true crap, and I don't think Lair fits in with that, but its definately not the game I was hoping it'd be.

I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet. I've heard roughly the same things. I would say they do deserve a break for being one of the first developers to make full use of the six axis controls. Yeah it didn't pan out as they had planned but they atleast tried and with that taken care of, they and other developers know how to make better use of it.

Once I do get a PS3 I'll rent it and try it myself. It's kinda sad to see that these past few months, a couple of very hyped up and highly anticipated games have actually faired rather poorly.

Well, just because they "tried" doesn't mean they should get a better score. It is probably why their score isn't lower though.
