Use this thread to discuss the new featured article.
I'll start. I must admit, I do want most of those games, but the article barely scratched the surface of what each game is about or any real reason to care for them. Like Gears of War, what is it about the cover system that makes it better than others, what is it about the story that makes it special, etc, etc. Also, I actually played Mass Effect and Gears of War, and seriously, those games are way overhyped. Mass Effect is just a shooter with bad shooting mechanics and cutscenes in between each action. The characterizations are pretty good, but it's nothing too notable. Gears of War's story is a joke. Seriously, I really hated that story. The cover system is good, but honestly, a lot of shooters do cover systems just as well. The enemies eat bullets. Unless you shoot them repeatedly in the head, they'll empty your clip. The level design is terrible, it's just going from one box to another with low walls scattered. It's pretty linear that way. I see nothing good about that game except the bosses, and how badass each character look. And the chainsaw is really cool, but the game repeatedly try to prevent you from using it like making you walk really slowly when you are using your chainsaw. I do want another Jak tho.

I wanted to try and keep iit short and sweet, while not going all wikipedia on the reader.
As for you thinking Gears story is a joke, it's all subjective, but from re-reading it....you're just staing your opinion on it... I liked the story in Gears, it didn't really make you think too much, but was enough to keep yo u playing. Like a summer action flick...

I think you have missed the point with Gears plus why would you want it on PS3 after giving it bad feedback. Nevertheless I'll give you the point about the chainsaw, it was the most awkward weapon in the game. Still though I don't think you should underestimate it since the second installation was a far better improvement even if it still had its faults (rarely is a game perfect). The shooting system was improved and location shots actually mattered in #2, the weapons as a result became more useful, especilally pistols. Plus the whole experience playing it through first time was very entertaining and I rate the game pretty high. Either be glad you got Bioshock, easily one of the best games of its year. Plus the second installment is in process so something to look forward to. I know I never really replied to the actual topic but rarely do xbox games get mentioned on here. ![]()

Actually most gears fans think that the first one is better than the second. Don't ask me why since I've never played the second one. Why I want it on the ps3 is that some people like it. So I'd rather have the choice to not get it than ruin it for others who might enjoy it.

It's because online for Gears 2 is a joke, and the gun mechanics in multiplayer for Gears 2 are questionable. That's not to say the multiplayer can't be fun, it's a lot of fun when there isn't loads of lag, or ridiculously stacked teams. But besides the multiplayer, the game overall is much more polished than the first one, especially the story.
As for Mass Effect, I like it much more for the dialog, story, than the combat. The combat is alright, but it doesn't shine nearly as much as KOTOR's, which is a shame, since all you would need to do is add some type of 'laser melee weapon' and you are good to go. But regardless, I still love Bioware since they are one of two great American RPG makers, the other being Bethesda, and I'd rather not see Bioware fall anytime soon.

That's all we live for, isn't it? For pleasure, for titillation? And you must admit our culture provides plenty of these. He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. ![]() Last edited by A Plywood Cow; 06-23-2009 at 02:47 PM.. |
