Sony has reported that during the months of October through December 2009 6.5 million PS3 units were sold. Even though Sony had a boost in sales from the PS3, that is not the case with the PS2 and PSP. The PS2 sold 2.1 million units (down 400 thousand) and the PSP sold 4.2 million (down nearly a million) during the same quarter.
Sony says that "despite a decrease in PS2 hardware and software unit sales, as well as PSP hardware unit sales, profitability was relatively unchanged mainly due to an improvement in the cost of PS3 hardware".
