Blue-ray and HD-DVD continue to battle it out between each other, and unfortunately for HD-DVD, the Blu-Ray format continues to dominate the next-generation media format war with an astronomical 71% lead.
According to numbers taken from Nielson VideoScan, the Blu-ray format continues to dominate the HD movie sales charts, with a 71% to 29% split between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD for the week ending November 11th. Transformers is the only HD-DVD title in the HD movie sales top then, at a generous 3rd place position.
1. Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray - 100.00
2. Spider-Man: The High Definition Trilogy Blu-ray - 71.95
3. Transformers - HD-DVD - 31.42
4. Meet the Robinsons - Blu-ray - 8.82
5. 300 - Blu-ray - 6.56
6. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Blu-ray - 5.03
7. License to Wed - Blu-ray - 4.24
8. The Shining - Blu-ray - 4.11
9. Mr. Brooks - Blu-ray - 4.03
10. 2001: A Space Odyssey Blu-ray 3.88
HD-DVD's continued support is largely due to a number of high profile studios continuing the support the format exclusively, forcing consumers into having to choose between either format depending on their specific tastes. Without this studio support, it's unquestionable that Blu-ray would dominate even further.
As it stands, it's only a matter of time.
