Blu-ray smashes HD-DVD in the head with a baseball bat

Figuratively speaking, of course.

Blu-ray outsold HD-DVD by a margin of 64:36 in 2007. This news comes just a week after Warner Bros. and Paramount announced Blu-ray exclusivity.

In the opening week of 2008, the margin was 65:35. At this stage it's fairly fair to say that Blu-ray has won the much talked about format wars, both in terms of market share and exclusive deals. Less than two years after it's launch, HD-DVD is already becoming an abandoned format.

The inclusion of a Blu-ray player in the PS3 by default has surely helped it's market dominance. The lack of a HD-DVD player as standard in the Xbox 360 most certainly damaged HD-DVD's potential audience and is partly responsible for it's demise.
