Could Sony have to cease PlayStation 3 production?

In a somewhat bizarre fashion, Sony are being sued again. This time, it's by Califorian-based Orinda Intellectual Properties, over an alledged problem with regards to patent number 5,438,560, which is related to “an optical disk-shaped recording medium comprising a plurality of tracks ,” filed in 1995 by Hyundai Electronics Industries. Orinda have went one step further than just demanding royalties, as well as that they have requested that the court order Sony to cease production of all Blu-ray enabled products, which includes the PlayStation 3.

All of the cases that Sony have dealt with so far regarding Blu-ray have failed, so fingers crossed that this one does too!

Tom: I smell a rat here.
mega_dranix: Oh gee... so they're going to sue everyone with "an optical disk-shaped recording medium" technology? Might as well sue the whole planet for using CDs and DVDs... >.>
