Half the memory, twice the price in Japan

While this isn't really news it's interesting to note. Our good friends in Japan must really want to have their backwards compatibility in their PS3s. There are currently reports running that the oldest models of the PS3 the 20GB and 60GB models are selling for sky high prices at used game stores across the nation. The 20GB model is said to be being sold for 63,800 yen ($617), about 30,000 more yen than the current price of the 40GB model. This is all because people want badly to be able to play their old PS2 games and even older PlayStation games on the system. However, all the new retail systems in Japan have had the functionality removed.

Hopefully Sony takes this hint and puts back in the functionality for its future systems. It's clear that if the people are willing to pay that much for an almost two year old system, that they fork out just as much for a new one with more features. Are you listening Sony?
