You don't need to be Persian to be the Prince of Persia, at least not if you're Jake Gyllenhaal, as it has been confirmed by the Hollywood Reporter that the lead role of Dastan, the prince, originally slated for also non-Persian actor Orlando Bloom, will go to Gyllenhaal instead.
The movie, by Disney studios based off of the acclaimed video game series by Ubisoft will take place in the earlier part of the series with Gyllenhaal as Dastan, will team up with the exotic princes, Tamina, played by also non-Persian actress, Gemma Arterton as the two try to prevent the mystical Sands of Time, which have the power to turn back time, from falling into the hands of an evil nobleman.
The movie itself will soon be filmed in England and Morocco and will be slated for a summer release in 2009. Along with the movie, Ubisoft has confirmed a new Prince of Persia title for the new current gen consoles to be released sometime near the end of 2008.
