Next Rockstar game a Max Payne sequel?

With Grand Theft Auto IV’s development no doubt done and dusted by now, it’s time for Rockstar to put the drinks on ice and start to think about what game it will roll off the production line next. Could it be a new Midnight Club? No, that’s already been announced. What about a Bully sequel? We doubt it, what with the recent release of Scholarship Edition on the X360 and Wii (though, to be fair, that was an update). A new Manhunt, perhaps? Just no! Sources close to Rockstar have hinted that it is already working on a new Max Payne title, with eagles’ eyes watching 2009 for a release date.

Rumours are rife that the game will be released simultaneously with the Max Payne movie, and after a Take-Two conference call to investors on March 11 saying Rockstar is moving on to a sequel to a major franchise in 2009, this is one of the obvious assumptions.

There will probably be a few of you wondering what – or who – the hell Max Payne is, so here’s a quick rundown: Our man is a detective in New York whose wife and daughter were slaughtered in the first game, and he goes out to kick ass in both the first game and Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne. Both games place a great emphasis on bullet-time, a feature which slows down time, and are considered very ‘dark’ by the media.

We’ll keep you updated on this matter, but if a new Max Payne game is on the way, we’re really excited… our pants are no longer fresh. Damn!
