PS3 price drop and PS3 Slim confirmed?

mz3c8utdva At this year's E3, Sony were pulling out all the stops to try to ensure that they didn't have to drop the prices of their PlayStation consoles. However, times are hard and gamers are getting increasingly impatient. With sales of the PS3 being trumped by both the Wii and the Xbox, it's clear that something has to be done if Sony want to get back in the game, and it seems an inside source reported just what that something is. A trusted source told arstechnica that Sony are phasing out the 80GB PS3 models, and we can expect to see this model in retail stores for another two months before stock becomes scarce. Taking over as the prevalent PS3 model will be the 160GB, but marketing is key here as selling through this stock sets them up for a good start to launch the PS3 Slim in the fall. Following this, the PS3 range will see a price drop, though source didn't confirm what exactly how significant a price drop it would be. Yes, arstechnica's mole also confirmed that the PS3 Slim will launch in August or September of this year. Now we've all heard rumours of the PS3 Slim across the board, but now we have confirmation from a seemingly respected inside source. It is likely that, as always, if the PS3 Slim is compromised during its sneaking mission, all knowledge of its existence will be promptly disavowed by Sony. And with good reason - they still have a whole catalogue of 160GB PS3s to sell.
