Torres and Messi: The faces of PES 2010 due to new licensing

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, set to hit this autumn, looks to take one-up on rival football franchise, FIFA, as they have now secured an exclusive Europa League (UEFA) license. And with that, Fernando Torres and Leo Messi will be headlining and profiling as the poster-boys for the latest edition of PES. Some would say that the major downfall with PES, compared to FIFA, is that it fails at the licensing game. However, gaining the rights to the Champions League last year, and the Europa League this year, PES is able to take another crucial step towards realistic football simulation. Adding to the realism in this new title, Konami have declared a return to the series' simulation roots. Tweaks to the AI will allow the midfielders and defenders to work together more cohesively, as well as allowing referees to make more balanced calls throughout the match. They state that strategic thinking will be needed just as much as quick passing, and it seems to us that it will feel more like a team is playing the game, rather than a single player. PES European team leader, Jon Murphy, reports that Torres "encapsulates everything that is good about the modern game, showcasing both pace, skill and vision - three elements that play a major part in PES 2010 as a football simulation." Other footballers joining Fernando Torres and Leo Messi in an appearance on PES 2010 include Francesco Totti, Thierry Henry, John Terry and Cristiano Ronaldo.
