UK Gets the 60GB & 40GB Fun! - Confirmed!
What!? You mean that 40GB PlayStation 3 is TRUE!? Why yes, yes it is! As it would seem, Sony has confirmed the upcoming existence of the new 40GB PlayStation 3 model for... well... Europe!? Yep, it would seem Europe is the only place at this time to have the 40GB model confirmation.
With that said, it is expected that other regions would be able to take advantage of this offer locally, but as of yet, Sony hasn't said anything. Just when hopes go up, you've got to hear it isn't in your country, eh? Well, we are all pretty sure it'll come to the other regions as well, to say the least.
Anyways, the new model is more than just 20-40 gigabytes less than the higher-end models. In fact, it only features two USB ports rather than four, and loses the multi-memory card slot and backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 2 back catalogue.
This console model runs for GBP 299, where as the 60BG model now has dropped down to GBP 349 (including two "starter" PS3 games and one controller).
"As we approach our first PlayStation Christmas, it is satisfying to be able to offer UK consumers the choice of two PlayStation 3 packages both now representing remarkable value," commented Ray Maguire, MD of SCEUK.
"We have a brand new 40 GB machine that represents an excellent entry point into the world of high definition games and movies, and we have the fully featured 60GB machine being offered with two next-generation gaming experiences at a highly competitive price."
David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe added: "The introduction of the new PS3 has been the result of extensive research into the entertainment needs and preferences of the next-generation PS3 owners."
