Updated: Capcom dismisses Resident Evil 5 release date

Capcom has dismissed rumours originating from Electronic Gaming Monthly that its upcoming horror, Resident Evil 5, will be released by October this year. Many retailers think it’s unlikely the game will be out around the same time as Gears Of War 2, which could block out everything else in its wake. We’d like to point out that Capcom’s impressive financial results for the fiscal year thus far indicate a late 2008 release for Resi 5, though now this looks doubtful, and we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that early 2009 is the absolute latest! We’ve contacted Capcom for a word on this matter, but wouldn’t recommend getting your – and our – hopes up for a reply with any info. Update March 7 - Capcom's PR replied to us and said 'We have nothing to announce at the moment', though he added that we should keep our eyes on its press site for any announcements that might be made. Hopefully, this is an indication that we'll soon have a clearer idea of when to expect the game to ship.
