Preview: What's to Be Expected from Metal Gear Solid: Rising

The much hyped Metal Gear Solid: Rising is being developed by Kojima Productions and Konami Digital Entertainment for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The newest addition to one of the world's most highly acclaimed game franchises, Metal Gear Solid: Rising features the well-known character from the other titles in the series, Raiden. This character's debut was made with the release of Metal Gear Solid 2 as a playable character, only to continue as a non-playable one (namely a cyborg) in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The return of Raiden in this all-new title is therefore all the more acclaimed.  The designers and creators of this title promise a completely new experience this time, one that all of us, fans of the Metal Gear series, are definitely looking forward to.

What is to be expected from the Metal Gear Solid: Rising experience? For starters, we know for sure that it's going to have an entertaining story line. This statement may be a little biased, but you'll probably agree if you're the least bit into the Metal Gear series. The graphics and visuals are also something to look forward to as Metal Gear has never let us down from this point of view.

As far as the gameplay goes, if you are a fan of the returning character's, you will certainly be enjoying the new experience of this groundbreaking series. There's a pretty good chance for Raiden's killer and gravity-defying moves to be taken to the next level in Metal Gear Solid: Rising and that is definitely something to sink your teeth into. And if we think of the subtitle, Lightning Bolt Action, we can only count on the gameplay to be even more fast-paced than before.

We may also be getting a good share of Snake's commanding officer, Colonel Campbell, presumably in a role similar to his previous features in the Metal Gear series, not to mention the fascinating sniper Crying Wolf and her powerful rail gun that, according to the trailer, seem to be appearing in Metal Gear Solid: Rising in some form.

Still, in the absence of any solid information there isn't much to be said about what Metal Gear Solid: Rising will be like and what kind of experience it will offer. Nevertheless, the thirty-six second trailer leaves room for some serious speculation concerning both the gameplay and the characters. We can speculate on whether or not Metal Gear Solid: Rising will be a sequel to the previous title, because you have to agree that being a prequel or a parallel story would also make sense. When is the action taking place? Do we know for sure that it will pick up where the last Metal Gear game left off, or should we consider something like the events taking place somewhere between MGS2 and MGS4? And if we think of the teaser trailer, we may know even be very certain about Raiden being the main character. For all we know, Raiden might not be anything more than a code name, and we could be looking at Gray Fox taking the stand, or Solid Snake, against all odds, as the main playable character. Who knows? But the anticipation and speculating do make Metal Gear Solid: Rising seem all the more interesting, don't they?
