Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the latest installment in the Guitar Hero series from Neversoft Entertainment / Vicarious Visions. If you suck at playing a real guitar (much like myself!) then this game is for you, but make sure there isn’t anyone around before sticking on your top hat and jumping in the air with your Gibson Controller.
The game offers a huge selection of songs for you to rock hard to. From Alice Cooper and Guns N’ Roses to Rise Against and Dragonforce, there’ll always be a song that suits your particular tastes in music. There is also a fair amount of characters in the game for you to play as: the default characters of which many resemble real guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Gene Simmons and then there are the unlockables amongst which are Tom Morello and Slash. The in-game store allows you to buy even more guitars and finishing touches to refresh your game experience even more. Amongst these items there is a good selection of bonus content such as making of videos and songs.
There are four difficulty options. If you’re a beginner you can quite obviously play in Easy mode, which makes use of the Green, Red and Yellow buttons in quite a slow fashion. Once you get to grips with the game you can give it a whirl on Medium which steps up a notch from Easy making use of the Blue button. Hard and Expert modes explain themselves, when you’re ready to burn up the fretboard try this option.
The developers were not lazy either. Even though you’ll probably not pay much attention to what’s going on in the background while playing there certainly is a lot going on. All of the band characters are playing, the crowd is always doing something new and even the stage gets a piece of the action as well. Yes, that’s right, everything you see in the game has been animated with to every detail. Be sure to try performance mode when you get the chance as it’d be a waste to not bother.

Whether you’re playing on PS3, PS2, 360 or Wii you’ll be sure to enjoy this game. Be sure to give this game a try, you'll enjoy it. Neversoft and Vicarious Visions have crafted an amazing and beautiful game. The game will always be refreshed as the developers have put in another nifty little feature that allows you to add downloadable content into the game making it as fresh as can be every time you play. Hopefully a sequel will be inbound in the near future. Of course if rock music isn’t your thing you might as well just pick up a copy of Dancing Stage Universe.
