Killzone 2 Review
Guerrilla Games have delivered in every way promised, Killzone 2 lives up to and goes beyond the hype. This is the game to own a PS3 for, trust us, you don't want to be one of the people that didn't play this game.
Gameplay
Guerrilla Games' Killzone 2 has been in development for over 4 years, and finally is available to buy in the US and EU. The gameplay in Killzone 2 is similar to Call of Duty Modern Warfare, but maybe it isn't too far-fetched when the creators wrote in the commercial; "Killzone 2. War. Perfected". This is because although Killzone 2 doesn't bring much new to the First Person Shooter genre, it definitely perfects it. Many will say this is a fanboy comment, but the game is far better than
ANY other First Person Shooter or Third Person Shooter available, including the fantastic, and well-praised Gears of Wars series. There is a large variety of weapons available in the game, but the main M82 assualt rifle tends to be the best and most accurate among them. There are also a variety of alternate controller configurations available, for those who don't like the default controls, including a Call of Duty style configuration.
It could be true to say that Killzone 2 doesn't bring anything new to the FPS genre, and this seems like the "go to" excuse for many fanboy reviews. Suffice to say, this is true to a certain extent, a lot of the ideas are taken from other games. The classes available in multiplayer are very similar to those in Team Fortress, and also have similar abilities. On the other hand the multiplayer and single player modes are both bug-free.
However just because the game takes ideas from other games, doesn't mean it is completely devoid of innovation. The multiplayer abilities are handled in a different way to Team Fortress. Instead of being able to choose any class, at any time, in Killzone 2 you must first rank up enough to unlock one badge ability. Each class has 2 abilities which you can mix and match, although each ability has its own criteria to be unlocked. So what does this achieve? This is primarily to keep you interested in the game longer, and it achieves this purpose.
One of the most innovative features of Killzone 2 online, is Killzone.com. Killzone.com allows you to view all of your multiplayer statistics, and an especially cool feature is to view a simple top-down replay of your last match online. Simply go to Killzone.com and sign in with your PSN ID to check out all your stats, scroll down to "Battle Replay" and you can replay about 10 of your last matches
Even though the game does not innovate much, it improves on the already established FPS ideas, living up to its catchphrase, War. Perfected.

Story
Story is probably one of the most scrutinised areas of Killzone 2. It seems that because the other aspects of the game are perfect, reviewers seem to be hating heavily on the story of the game. However the story is not as terrible as many reviews make out. Killzone 2 actually has a fairly good story, especially for its genre, which is notorious for terrible plotlines, with a few exceptions. The story continues on from the events of Killzone: Liberation on the PSP. After the Helghast invaded an ISA colony, the ISA have taken the fight to the Helghast's home planet, Helghan. You take the role of Sev, a sergeant in an ISA squad known as Alpha Squad.
Granted the story is very simple, guys go back for revenge, but it does have its moments. The opening cinematic when you first put the game into your PlayStation 3 is amazing. Nobody buys a FPS for its story, thankfully though Killzone 2's story is pretty decent if you pay attention, but obviously not Metal Gear Solid 4 standard. The voice acting is also very good at times, Brian Cox's (known to most people as "that bad guy from Bourne") role as Scolar Visari in particular is fantastic. But the voice acting is also very generic at times, especially during dialogue between members of the Alpha squad.

Presentation
The graphics in Killzone 2 are fantastic, and are even better than the demo released on the PSN a few weeks ago. Honestly, Killzone 2 may be the first ever jaggie-less game. When the E3 2005 trailer was shown, like everyone, we all called bullsh*t, but after 4 years of work, Guerrilla Games have surpassed that trailer by leaps and bounds. The particle physics are also amazingly realistic, the sparks, explosions, smoke are again very very realistic. All are better than any game available, and although this may be controversial, even the physics in the fantastic Crysis (P.S. I'm not saying Killzone 2 looks better than Crysis).
The audio is also beautifully presented, in Dolby Digital 7.1 Surround Sound. The graphics and the sound together make the game feel like a real warzone, more so than Call of Duty 4, which put the bar pretty high.
There is one aspect of the presentation that can be criticised, the environments. The environments look beautiful again, similar to those in Metal Gear Solid 4, however the game uses these environments over and over again. This means that most of the game looks the same. On the plus side, this does make you feel like you are in a hostile environment, which is the effect you are meant to get. It would also make sense that places in Helghan look similar to each other.
