The idea Rockstar and Team Bondi had behind L.A. Noire was to create a cinematic experience. The use of facial motion capture allowed for very realistic cutscenes, but also required the actors to act with motion as well as voice. Cole Phelps, the game’s protagonist and straigh-laced good guy, was not terribly interesting, but Aaron Staton’s acting combined with the motion capture was his saving grace whenever he displayed emotion.
